Day 2 - Dinner

We went to select dining in the MDR around 6:00pm and did not have to wait for a table, although we were unable to sit in I Gede's section because it was already full. Apparently he is a very popular waiter.

The drink service was extremely bad tonight. The drink stewards are overworked and rarely visited the table more than once or twice during the meal.  It is difficult to get a hold of the wine list because it isn't on the table and you have to request it.  Ross wanted a wine with his appetizer and a different one for his main dish.  When the wine steward arrived, Ross explained that he would like a suggestion for a wine to go with his salmon tartar starter and then something else to go with his rack of lamb entree. The wine steward returned with a bottle of Pinot Noir and said, "This will be fine for both your starter and entree."   Ross just looked at me and shrugged his shoulders.  If we hadn't been with Grandma Trudy and Sweet Pea, we probably would have asked for the wine steward to return more often.   I also think if we had been in consistent seating with an unchanging wait staff, they would probably have been more attentive.

A little later Grandma Trudy decided that she wanted a cocktail with dinner. We told our assistant waiter who eventually flagged down another steward. When she arrived, Grandma Trudy said she wanted one of the cocktails that had been listed on the left side of the dinner menu. The wine steward said, "The Bacardi Cocktail?"

"No, I don't think that is it. What else was there?" asked Grandma Trudy.

"That's the only thing with rum."

"No," Trudy responded. " I don't want a Bacardi cocktail. Can I see a menu?"

"Well, that's the only drink that it could be," insisted the steward.

I intervened at this point and insisted that the steward bring back the dinner menu, which she reluctantly went to get.

When she returned, Grandma Trudy looked at the menu and immediately saw the drink she wanted listed among several other drinks on the menu. I don't understand why the wine steward was arguing with us instead of just bringing over a menu.

At least the food was good! Sweet Pea loved her honey pear soup.

Grandma Trudy loved the French onion soup.

I ordered the chicken liver parfait, which was excellent. The parfait was rich and very smooth.

We all also wanted to try the frog legs so our waiter brought us each one. They were okay. The breading was good and the meat was tender, but they were not warm enough and I did not care for the sauce or the pea purée. Sweet Pea said they tasted like chicken feet. :)

For dinner, Ross and Sweet Pea both ordered the Rack of Lamb which was fantastic.

I had the Beef Tournedos, which was very good. The meat was extremely tender, although a tiny bit over-cooked for my taste.

Here is the dessert menu.

I tried to order the Pacific Rim Riesling, but they were out of it. They brought me the sauternes instead which very good.

Chilled strawberry soup. Meh.

The phyllo dough tulip was beautiful and the fresh fruit was refreshing.

Grandma Trudy wanted creme brûlée again because it is her favorite dessert.

Lastly we tried the apple pie a la mode, which was our favorite dessert from the evening.
